Loupe’s verification method, sources and limits.
A finding says what a source establishes. An unanswered lookup is a limit of the check, not evidence against the authority or the person who cited it.
By Loupe. Updated 6 November 2026. Sources and method.
How a check works
- Read the document and identify authorities, quotations, references and links. A scan first needs readable extracted text.
- Resolve each authority against the appropriate record: Loupe’s case-law index, the opinion’s text, an official publisher or the linked page.
- Compare only what the available record can establish. Keep identity, metadata, quotations and reachability separate.
- Return findings with sources, the checks that ran and the checks that did not. The lawyer reads and resolves the remaining questions.
Sources
Case-law data includes the public-domain files of CourtListener and Harvard’s Caselaw Access Project, alongside courts’ own sites. Statutes, regulations and rules use their public publishers where supported. The source inventory explains each source’s role; a provider’s name is not an endorsement.
Unverified is not wrong
Missing coverage, an unavailable website, extraction trouble or an unresolved reference can stop a check. Loupe does not turn these into a finding that an authority does not exist. A mismatch requires a specific conflict with a source. Citation defects do not establish who or what wrote the document.
What this does not settle
Loupe does not replace a citator’s treatment history, decide whether a case is still good law or determine whether a proposition follows from an authority. It is not a Bluebook formatting service and does not certify compliance with a court order.
How these pages are prepared
The publisher is Loupe. Guides distinguish manual review from the checks software can perform. Court-rule pages quote a linked document and record when it was read; their dates describe that source review, not a promise that a rule cannot change. Court quotations are drawn from the shared source collection rather than retyped separately.
Published measurements
The latest published measurement is from 11 October 2026 on engine 8038f68. The live software may have changed since that run.
A result belongs to the engine, index, documents and test conditions recorded with it. Offline tests do not measure every live lookup. We publish false accusations, misses and checks that could not run separately; historical numbers are not guarantees about a later release. See the full results and the item-level dataset.
Corrections
Send the page address and the source that settles the point to hello@loupe.legal. Keep confidential client material out of a public report. A correction changes the relevant source record or explanation and keeps the date of the measurement it describes.
